Topps is stopping its WizKids line to keep the focus on its sports and entertainment products.

The Topps Co. has shut down its WizKids division, a line of collectible miniatures games.

Scott Silverstein, CEO of Topps, said “This was an extremely difficult decision. While the company will still actively pursue gaming initiatives, we feel it is necessary to align our efforts more closely with Topps current sports and entertainment offerings which are being developed within our New York office.”

WizKids became a Topps property in 2003, when a 25-year-old game designer named Jordan Weisman sold his creation to the card maker. The company went on to produce games based on popular science-fiction, video game and comic book properties, including many of the major characters from both DC and Marvel's comic universes.

Topps has been selling WizKids games through its website.
