Topps won the rights to be MLB's only licensed manufacturer earlier this month. For the first time, the company addresses the move on national TV.
Topps says the baseball card market now consists of "two different markets, the collectors and the kids".
That was one of the comments made by company general manager Warren Friss in an interview with Bloomberg News this week.
Friss said in a 3 1/2 minute interview that Major League Baseball's decision to award it an exclusive contract was a "very important first step" in turning the modern card industry around.
"It's very important that it's simple," said Friss of the new world in which one company will produce a handful of licensed sets as the two partners attempt to keep the younger collectors interested while wooing new ones.
