They were almost sold for next to nothing. Now, a group of valuable vintage baseball cards may help a church save its historic organ thanks to the generosity of a parishoner.
They were sitting in a dresser drawer, a hand-me-down collection of old baseball cards that a North Philadelphia church member was ready to sell.
The church was having a sale to help raise money to fix a huge pipe organ and the price tag was well into six figures. He didn't know it, but those cards were worth more than David Smith thought.
Luckily, someone stepped in and a possible bargain of the century has been rerouted to Hunt Auctions' upcoming All-Star FanFest auction in St. Louis where it should draw plenty of attention.
