A 1985 Bears reunion, Heisman Trophy winners, football and baseball Hall of Famers and others will grab the Sharpie next month.
The autograph guest list is set for this year’s Chicago Sun-Times Sports Collectible Show, to be held Friday, March 20, Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22 at the Stephens Convention Center.
From NFL superstars to baseball legends and a Customer Appreciation Night, athletes from a wide range of sports will be on hand to greet fans and sign memorabilia.
“We are proud to be able to present a remarkable group of athletes that have special meaning to so many fans throughout sports,” said Mitch Adelstein, president of Mounted Memories. “We are so fortunate that each year, the most beloved players from the past and present come to this wonderful show and the fans are never disappointed.”
Dreams Inc., the parent company of Mounted Memories and Schwartz Sports are once again co-producing the show which they acquired in September 2007. Despite the economy, the show producers say they are anticipating large crowds.
Friday Night is Customer Appreciation Night, with special pricing on autographs and collectible items. 90-year old, Bob Feller, the oldest living Baseball Hall of Famer, will be on hand. Feller autographs will cost $19. Also appearing that night are past Heisman Trophy winners Billy Cannon (1959), Steve Owens (1969), Billy Sims (1978), Rashaan Salaam (1994) and Jason White (2003). Fans can also meet baseball great Monte Irvin, and Chicago Bulls rookie star Derrick Rose ($79-99).
Saturday showcases sports greats including one of the most honored quarterbacks of all time, Dan Marino ($179-199) as well as Class of 2009 inductee into the Baseball Hall of Fame, Boston Red Sox outfielder Jim Rice ($59-79). In addition, other NFL standouts on Saturday include “Mean” Joe Greene ($59-79), dominant defensive lineman for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1970s, reigning Super Bowl MVP and Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes ($79-99) and the “Marks Brothers” – Mark Clayton and Mark Duper – from the 1980s Miami Dolphins. Saturday also features Chicago Black Hawks center Stan Mikita, shortstop Ozzie “The Wizard” Smith and Hall of Fame pitcher Dennis Eckersley.
Sunday reunites the 1985 Chicago Bears, headed by legendary coach Mike Ditka, along with Jim McMahon, Richard Dent, William Perry, Dan Hampton and approximately 20 others. Fans will have a prior opportunity to meet the players in an intimate setting at a special cocktail party from 6 pm to 9 pm on Saturday night at the Intercontinental Chicago O’Hare hotel. The party, a separate $299 ticket, will offer an open bar, photo opportunities, appetizer buffet and gift bags.
The Chicago Sun Times Sports Collectible Show will be held at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, 5555 N. River Road, Rosemont, IL.
