Stadium Memorabilia Sales Just Part of Trend

Yankee Stadium as we know it is no longer useful as a ballpark.

It is, however, beginning a new life as a series of foster children disguised as seats, signs, banners and lockers which will live in the homes of thousands of fans and collectors.

Last night's finale is the end of an era in Major League Baseball. But it also signals the strengthening of a trend. Fans, scared off by the continued gaps in credibility among some sellers and their wares, are turning to the teams themselves, knowing that what they're buying is the real deal--especially if it came directly from the team or city that owns it.

"You can buy a seat that someone sat in and watched Babe Ruth play baseball," says Robert Vazquez of Steiner Sports. "A baseball card is made to be a piece of memorabilia. Stadium elements are memorabilia."
