Signed Jerseys Part of Pat Tillman Foundation Auction

A sports memorabilia auction will help raise money in memory of the former NFL standout who lost his life while serving his country.

Big league baseball players have stepped up to help honor former Arizona Cardinals' defensive back Pat Tillman, who left the NFL to join the US Army and was killed in Afghanistan in 2004.

The Arizona Fall League holds its third annual Pat Tillman Foundation Benefit Night on Friday at Scottsdale Stadium with signed sports memorabilia due to be sold as part of the fundraiser.

Outfielder Eric Byrnes, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ 2009 Roberto Clemente Award nominee who played football against Tillman in high school in northern California, will be recognized for his fund-raising efforts on behalf of the Tillman Foundation.
Byrnes will be joined in pre-game ceremonies by several Tillman Scholars.

An extensive sports memorabilia auction that includes an array of autographed jerseys of current and former players before and during the game highlights the event. Autographed baseballs will accompany every silent bid award. Gates open at 5:30 with a game between Peoria and Scottsdale at 6:30.

All proceeds from the sports memorabilia auction and one-half of the night’s gate receipts will be donated to the Tillman Foundation.

The Tillman Foundation seeks to create a community of scholars dedicated to improving their own lives, the lives of their families and their country by creating a spirit of service.

“The Arizona Fall League honors the legacy of an American hero and is proud to support the foundation that bears his name,” offers Executive Director Steve Cobb.
