Philly Show Still Going After 100+ Events

Like every other sports card show, the long-running event at the Valley Forge Convention Center near Philadelphia has had to compete with the abundance of items available online. For serious collectors, though, it's still one of the hobby's signature events. And one show a year isn't enough.

Launched by the Eastern Pennsylvania Sports Collectors Club in 1975, the Philly show completed its 102nd edition last weekend, with autograph guests and dozens of dealer tables greeting guests, some of whom drive hundreds of miles or fly in for the weekend.

The show gained fame in the late 1970s and 80s when it was held in Ft. Washington. It was forced to move to Reading for a couple of years but settled back in the metro area under the new direction of Hunt Auctions.

Plans are already in the works for Philly 103, set for December.
