ImageA lot of things changed last night. Including the price of Barack Obama signed sports memorabilia and baseball cards.

While Barack Obama accepted congratulatory phone calls, America flocked to eBay to watch the prices of Obama memorabilia push upward.

Virtually anything picturing the Democratic victor sold as the networks began calling the race. No auction which closed after 10:30 Eastern time went unsold. Many offered with Buy it Now prices were sold quickly.

A 2008 Topps cut signature card (#2 of 15) sold for $3000. Topps Update Obama Presidential Pick cards were moving briskly at $200-250. eTopps cards featuring the 44th President were selling for between $60 and $100. A signed jersey, obtained by a supporter during the campaign brought $1400.

While Obama autographs are sometimes difficult to authenticate, sports cards seem to be a safe choice, and it's likely that the coming weeks will bring even more attention to the issues from Topps and Upper Deck. Both companies weren't shy about putting political figures into their sports cards this year, and both figure to get a publicity boost in the coming days if sales continue to increase.

One of the hottest cards that's not been on the market long is the 2008-09 Topps hort print Obama basketball card showing the Illinois resident shooting hoops. One offered on eBay drew 28 bids and sold just after the results were announced for $152.

Over 270 Obama items were listed in the sports cards and memorabilia category as of early this morning. Some sellers may be waiting until closer to inauguration day to list their items in hopes of an even bigger payday.
