ImageThey were the talk of the NFL on Sunday. The Denver Broncos 1960 throwback uniforms didn't play to rave reviews, but expect some serious bidding if and when they hit the auction block.

The NFL's "AFL Legacy" program salutes the 50th anniversary of the now-defunct league that was once its bitter rival.

The American Football League began in 1960 on a wing and a prayer, using whatever means it could to draw attention, including some unusual looking uniforms.

Today's fans don't know a lot about the way the AFL looked in 1960; or at least they didn't until this season when the NFL's throwback jerseys hit the field. Perhaps the most unusual uniforms were those worn by the Denver Broncos, a mustard and brown color scheme that had some fans watching the "Legacy" game against the much more understated "Boston Patriots" less than impressed.

While TV viewers recoiled, the players who donned them in 1960 were proud to see them back on the field, including Gene Mingo who recalled literally going door-to-door to solicit business support to keep the Broncos alive in the early years.

If recent auctions are any indication, though, you can expect those Broncos throwback jerseys will sell for big numbers when they hit NFL Auctions sometime later this month.

Recent auctions of NFL game-worn items are proving that fans have no qualms about buying into the unique color schemes that have been on display throughout the league this year.

Thomas Jones Throwback JerseyThrowback jerseys worn September 27 by the New York Jets are proof of that. Darrelle Revis' New York Jets/Titans jersey sold for a whopping $2005 this week. Thomas Jones? $1705. Even backup quarterback Kellen Clements' shirt brought $486.

Last week, the league began a month-long awareness campaign for the fight against breast cancer with some players donning pink shoes, wristbands and Jabar Gafney pink shoes and glovesgloves. Shoes and gloves worn by receiver Jabar Gaffney were recently sold on the auction site for $580 after drawing 51 bids. LaDanian Tomlinson's game-worn shoes are currently on the block with bidding at $640 as of late Sunday night.

Virtually anything has been selling that's touted by the league as game-used. Even facemasks pulled from helmets worn by the Miami Dolphiins have been a hit with most selling for $60-80. The one used by running back Ricky Williams sold for $255. Even the coin tossed before last week's Chargers/Steelers game has been bid up to $276 with a week left in the auction.

Proceeds from NFL Auctions go to charity.

The NFL Replica throwback jerseys are already being sold online.
