A newcomer to the sports memorabilia auction world offers sports memorabilia auction includes a 19th century baseball set.

National Copper Plate Honus Wagner Collect.com auctions makes its debut this month with a 62-page catalog of sports memorabilia highlighted by a complete set of 1898-99 National Copper Plate Portraits.

The high grade set of 50 includes Honus Wagner, Cap Anson and other Hall of Famers.

“It’s rare enough to find one or two of these Copper Plate Portraits or even a handful at auction, but this is the first time that a complete set has ever been offered,” said Steve Bloedow, auction director. It's believed to be the sole surviving complete set and includes the original binder as issued by The Sporting News more than a century ago.

Also among the featured items in the sale are a side-written 1939-40 Al Simmons game-used bat (MEARS 9.5), a Jack Johnson autograph on a sepia-toned photo and a 61x33-inch American flag with signatures from all of the members of the 1980 Olympic Hockey Team, including Coach Herb Brooks.

A vintage signed baseball featuring Babe Ruth's autograph on a Western League ball carries a $4000 minimum bid while a complete set of 1920 “Headin’ Home” movie advertising cards graded between BGS 5 to BGS 8, will start at $2800.

Sports card listings in the sale include a number of turn-of-the-century tobacco and candy baseball card issues, plus Depression era cards rarely offered as complete sets, including a seldom-seen Fatima Team Card near-set of 14, an assortment of 1914 B18 Blankets (including Joe Jackson) and a lot of (21) 1911 T201 Mecca Double Folders.

The initial Collect.com auctions sale will also offer six original paintings from two well-known sports artists: Charles De Simone and Darryl Vlasak. De Simone’s 20th Century Baseball Series is represented by Ernie Banks, Brooks Robinson and Stan Musial, all framed; Vlasak’s super-realism includes framed works featuring Joe Jackson, Walter Johnson and a combination portrait of Babe Ruth and his HOF manager, Miller Huggins.

Bidding in the auction concludes Thursday, June 18.
