Nate Berkus used to help his dad Mike behind their table at various sports card shows growing up. He was interested in the draw that pristine old baseball cards had on collectors, but he never really liked sports all that much.
A couple of decades or more later, he's blazing his own trail as the owner of a Chicago design company, and preparing for the launch of a new custom-designed line of home decor and furniture.
He's lucky to be alive, too, after being swept into the sea during the typhoon that struck Sri Lanka a few years ago, a disaster that didn't come without personal tragedy.
“When you go through a life-altering experience, you can come out [ of it ] in one of two ways," he told the Windy City Times in a recent feature story. "You can come out as a stronger version of the person you were before, or you can let it destroy you." |
