ImageWhile Bernie and Ruth Madoff's jewelry and furs will get most of the attention, Saturday's US Marshal's sale also includes some nice hockey cards, an MJ rookie and some autographed footballs.

He's a 71 year-old guy looking at spending the rest of his life behind bars.

Not an attractive proposition for Bernie Madoff, but most of the folks he swindled to the tune of $65 billion aren't shedding many tears. Madoff had his fun with the Ponzi scheme that unraveled but now his toys--and the evidence of luxury he and his wife enjoyed--are about to be sold.

An auction is scheduled this Saturday in New York to help the government recover at least a small part of what Madoff owes his victims. Of the hundreds of items in the Madoff auction, between 150 and 200 items belonged to the Madoffs.

Included in the sale is a cashmere Yankees cap, a special Mets jacket with Madoff's name on the back and a few dozen lots of sports cards and sports memorabilia. It's uncertain how much belonged to the disgraced financier, but they'll get the added publicity benefit of sharing the auction block with a pricey Rolex or two and a mountain of fine jewelry.

Bernie Madoff's hockey cards?

Among the sports goodies are a Beckett 8 (NM/MT) 1986-87 Michael Jordan rookie card, several Wayne Gretzky and Sidney Crosby cards, including some autographed, two multi-signed Pittsburgh Penguins prints, two Mario LeMieux signed hockey sticks, four Tom Barrasso sticks, hockey card sets and near sets from the 1970s-90s and autographed footballs from the 1970s Steelers.

Madoff's scheme victimized charities, celebrities and average investors over several years.

"We're trying to get as much as we can for these items so we can raise money for all the victims," said Roland Ubaldo, a Marshals Service spokesman. "We're very hopeful, because there's already been all kinds of interest."
