An 1887 baseball card, a 19th century uniform and items from Bob Gibson's stash of memorabilia were the big sellers for Legendary Auctions.
A rare 1887 N690 Kalamazoo Bats Jim Donahue card was the top selling item in Legendary Auctions' August sale. The 19th century card was graded SGC 30, the only copy recorded in SGC's census and sold for $82,950.
Over 1,000 lots from sports, politics and entertainment were sold in the auction. The company lowered its buyer's premium to 18.5% in time for the sale.
"We have worked hard to streamline our operations, and because of that we have been able to deliver savings to our buyers which translates to potentially higher profits for our consignors," said CEO and president Doug Allen.
One of only a few 19th century big professional uniforms to have surfaced in the hobby, an 1895 Bill Hoffer Baltimore ensemble consigned by the player's descendants commanded $71,100 before the auction closed in late August.
