Gallo Originals Part of Upcoming Auction

It's unique. A newspaper still carrying editorial cartoons on its sports pages.

But then New Yorkers would probably have a fit if Bill Gallo wasn't part of their lives. The long-time artist has captured some of the most famous personalities and teams in offering his own unique slant in each day's New York Daily News.

Gallo has been prolific and extraordinarily popular. His sketching skills are gold to collectors who appreciate something one-of-a-kind and not run-of-the-mill. Now, eighteen of his works are going up for auction.

He's a New Yorker through and through and many of his cartoons reflect that. But his favorite team? The 1930s Gashouse Gang. "They played with the spirit of the Depression, trying to battle out of it, just like we were," he told a Daily News writer who offers a peek at Gallo's work.
