A Naples, Florida woman whose late husband wrote a doctoral dissertation on baseball in the 1950s, is assisting the FBI with the investigation into some 19th century baseball letters possibly stolen from the New York Public Library.

The FBI has been trying to determine whether a series of baseball letters might have walked out of the New York Public Library and into private hands at some point in the last few decades. Dorothy Jane Mills has been one of their contacts.

Decades ago, the Florida woman assisted in her late husband Harold Seymour's efforts to research and and write baseball's early history. She's a member of the Society of Baseball Research who knows her way around the library--and the ball diamond.

No arrests have been made and there's no word yet on exactly what happened to those letters.

Florida Weekly just wrote about Mills' involvement in the case. Click on the tools below to manipulate the pages and read the story.FBI NYPL Letters
