The NFL's trading card partners moved quickly to ensure Brett Favre would be included in some of their early-season releases.
His debut Friday night was forgettable, but Minnesota Vikings fans hope Brett Favre eventually provides a few unforgettable moments. So do Upper Deck and Topps who were quick to announce plans to include Favre in upcoming football card products, hoping to boost sales.
Upper Deck secured training camp photos of Favre in a Minnesota uniform – and will have him appear in his new purple color scheme as early as next month. A short-printed card showing him during his first practice with the Vikings on Wednesday, August 19, will appear in 2009 NFL SPx, which is scheduled to hit store shelves on Sept. 15.
“We’re always trying to be the timeliest to market and this is just another example demonstrating how quickly our product development and creative teams can react to today’s volatile, ever-changing sports landscape,” said Brandon Miller, Upper Deck’s Football brand manager.
Topps will apparently put Favre in its 2009 Topps Finest Football set, also scheduled for release on Sept. 15. The Topps photo appears to be a graphically adjusted file photo of the 39 year-old quarterback in game action.
Panini says it will have the first Favre cards with true game-action photography. The company shot photos from the game, had cards printed over the weekend and spent Monday putting them in packs of Donruss Threads for exclusive distribution to Wal-Mart stores where they will appear in blister packs.
