No Hollywood or entertainment celebs this time. Donruss' new Americana series, due out just before Christmas, is strictly sports-related.
Donruss Americana Sports Legends Jim BrownWith the release of its Americana trading cards earlier this year, Donruss was able to tap into the world of Hollywood and pop culture to create what turned out to be a popular draw. As part of the set, Donruss showcased some of the top athletes in American history in the Sports Legends insert.

The cards were interesting enough to collectors that Donruss decided to make a new set with nothing but sports figures. The result is the newly created Donruss Americana Sports Legends series.

Due out in December, the release will feature more than 150 of the top athletes and coaches of all time, in one series. Packs will include autographs and memorabilia featuring Hall of Famers from baseball, basketball, football and hockey as well as Olympic athletes and legends from boxing, golf, racing, soccer, tennis, wrestling and other sports.

The list of players from the four major sports to be featured in the set includes: Ted Williams, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Cal Ripken, Nolan Ryan, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Pete Rose, Don Mattingly, Jim Brown, Joe Montana, Dan Marino, John Elway, Knute Rockne, Larry Bird, Dick Vitale, Dennis Rodman, Bill Walton, Dean Smith, John Wooden, Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoopes, Phil Esposito, Patrick Roy, Ray Bourque, Paul Coffey and Mike Bossy among others.

Other athletes in Americana Sports Legends are Serena Williams, Jim Courier, Martina Navratilova, Jake LaMotta, Bas Rutten, Randy Couture, Bela Karolyi, Peggy Fleming, Bruce Jenner, Mike Powell, Cat Osterman, Jennie Finch, Michelle Akers, Jeanette Lee, Ron Turcotte, Pete Weber, Richard Petty, Bobby Allison and Al Unser Sr. & Jr.

Among the chase cards:

Collegiate Legends Patches

These cards feature signed on card embroidered NCAA patches from collegiate legends including Tom Seaver (USC), Reggie Jackson (Arizona State), Robin Roberts (Michigan State), Jerry West (West Virginia), Oscar Robertson (Cincinnati), Lisa Leslie (USC), Randy Couture (Oklahoma State) and John Wooden (UCLA & Purdue) among others.

Certified Cuts

Some of the greatest names in sports history signed notations from their crowing moments within this insert. The cards feature a trapped cut signature numbered to 100 or less from players such as Jerry West, Larry Bird, John Wooden, Dick Vitale and Richard Petty.

Signature Connection Multi-Signed Cards

These cards feature signature combinations from the likes of Jim Brown/Mike Powell, Bo Jackson/Deion Sanders, Al Unser/Richard Petty, Bill Walton/John Wooden and Al Unser Sr/Al Unser Jr among others.

Donruss will be releasing more names and images over the next several weeks. Donruss Americana Sports Legends will release in December, with each five-card pack carrying a $10 SRP.
