Go see Dave Martin. His collection is partly for show--but mostly for history.
Dave Martin's collection started long before card shows were a hobby staple.
Before grading.
Before anyone really cared about price guides.
The Ottawa, Ontario sports nut began picking up newspapers across North America by sending a buck and hoping for the best. The publishers usually came through.
From there, his hobby grew into old World Series programs, hockey magazines and memorabilia and whatever else he could get his hands on. Now, he has thousands of items. The room he stores it all in is like a sports library, but it was his insatiable desire for how newspaper sports sections covered baseball history that started it all.
"From there, the collection just mushroomed," he told the Ottawa Sun.
