A long-time sports memorabilia dealer is offering customers and auction bidders the chance to participate while on the go.

Who says technology and vintage baseball cards don't mix?

Clean Sweep Auctions has launched a special new auction site for all mobile phones. The company says Mobile.csauctions.com is the first auction site designed specifically for the IPhone and related mobile phones for auction bidding.

Bidders who have mobile phones with full web access can browse the current auction, place bids, track bids and look at specially formatted images for a mobile phone.

"I think it is clear that is the next step in the evolution of the internet," said company President Steve Verkman. "With the massive increase in sales of smart phones, surely there will be demand among our customer base to use them to interact with us."

Bidders may also go to cleansweepauctions.com and click on the mobile phone icon at the top left corner of the home page to access the site.

The application is a natural outgrowth of unprecendented increase in the use of mobile information technology and Verkman says the idea is to make it easier for busy customers. "Being able to place bids anytime, anywhere when they have their phone," he explained. "Being able to clearly see larger images on a size compatible with a mobile device."

Verkman, who says reaction to the application has been "all positive", has been a strong supporter of advanced technology. Clean Sweep was among the first sports memorabilia and auction houses to have a fully functional auction and sale website. The company has also been implementing the use of powerful scanning software, high-end digital photography and what he calls "cutting edge auction software".

The company's large online store, with vintage and modern era sports cards and memorabilia, is also fully functional with mobile devices.

The new technology is in place for Clean Sweep's current auction that closes on Wednesday, September 30.
