Less than six months after Bob Gibson's memorabilia collection brought over $500,000, a former St. Louis Cardinal teammate and fellow Hall of Famer will bid goodbye to pieces of his past.
Legendary Auctions is selling off the collection of one-time stolen base king Lou Brock. The auction begins today and ends November 19.
Fans may wonder why the two players are selling off some intensely personal and important relics. They didn't live in poverty during their big league careers. Times weren't that tough for baseball heroes the 1960s and 70s.
Gibson and Brock were two of the best and were compensated as such. But the salaries of the era didn't turn them into multi-millionaires. Now, with estate planning part of the equation, making the decision to get what they could was a little easier.
