Upper Deck Masterpieces Jonathon PapelbonYou'll want to serve wine and cheese while looking over this late season baseball card release.
Today’s trading card collectors open packs quickly, scan the contents in hopes of discovering something special and then feverishly move on to the next. But that may not be the case with 2008 Upper Deck Masterpieces Baseball. The popular "art meets baseball card" set returns with each card printed on canvas-like paper.

Upper Deck created the cards from hand-painted original works. Many 2008 Upper Deck Masterpieces Joe DiMaggiocommemorate a special achievement such as Joe DiMaggio during his 56 game hitting streak (card #108), Ernie Banks slugging his 500th homer (card #96) and Derek Jeter’s memorable “flip” to home to record a timely out (card #109).

Each 12-pack box will include one memorabilia and one autograph card, on average. All of the autograph cards in the set are actually signed on the card. There are also rare game-used patch cards and autograph memorabilia cards.

“Collectors really responded to this set when it debuted last year and we are excited to bring it back stronger than ever,” said Jason Masherah, Upper Deck’s senior sports brand manager. “Baseball fans should enjoy putting together the 120-card set as well as the challenge of putting together some of the parallel framed sets. The memorabilia and autograph cards help add value, as do the inclusion of rookie cards of players like Evan Longoria and Kosuke Fukudome.”

Also found in the 2008 Upper Deck Masterpieces Baseball are the Yankee Stadium Legacy insert cards and Signs of History exchange cards which can be redeemed for inserts featuring authentic signature-cut autographs of former U.S. Presidents.

Each six-card pack of 2008 Upper Deck Masterpieces Baseball carries a suggested retail price of $6.99 and is available in on September 30. Boxes, cases and some singles have begun showing up on eBay.
