A major east coast collectibles show that once had a sizable presence of sports memorabilia dealers and collectors is going away.
Atlantique City, an annual spring collectors show at the Atlantic City Convention Center, has been cancelled for 2010.
F&W Media, which has organized the show for several years, announced the show's cancellation and says it has refunded dealer booth fees that had already been paid. The show had been held in March and was billed as the largest indoor antique and collectible show in the country.
While much of the focus was not sports related, there were a number of hobby dealers who once made the show part of their annual schedule. Many used the opportunity to buy vintage sports collectibles from those who dealt in traditional antiques and collectibles and re-sell them.
“There are immediate opportunities for us to produce events in the Midwest, closer to our core communities, as well as to continue to develop Collect.com and our Antiques & Collectibles Community online,” said F&W president Blansfield in a news release posted on the show's website. “Our focus will shift to organically growing these new businesses.”
The company will hold a show in Iola, WI July 8-10 of next year. The show will be co-located at the Iola Old Car Show and Swap Meet, which attracts nearly 100,000 attendees annually.
