The NFL career of Jacksonville Jaguars' rookie wide receiver Justin Blackmon has yet to begin, but he's already off to a bad start. Blackmon cancelled his autograph appearance at the Tri-Star Productions sports card show in Houston Saturday according to a tweet from the promoter. However, just hours later, there was word of the former Oklahoma State star being arrested on a charge of aggravated DUI.
He was taken into custody in Stillwater, Okla., at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday according to the Tulsa World newspaper. Blackmon had bonded out of jail by late Sunday morning.
He had scheduled to sign autographs at the show Saturday afternoon at prices ranging from $65-87.
"We have heard the news that has come out today," TriStar stated Sunday afternoon. "We are unaware of any information regarding Blackmon outside of what we were told."
According to Stillwater Police, Blackmon agreed to take a breathalyzer test and registered .24 — three times the legal limit of .08. Oklahoma law allows police to charge a person with aggravated DUI if they blow .15 or greater.
According to bloodalcoholcalculator.org, a .24 equates to consuming approximately 20 beers over a period of eight hours.
A police report indicates Blackmon's Chevy Tahoe was traveling 60 miles per hour in a 35 MPH zone and driving left of center. Blackmon drove four blocks before stopping at a gas-station parking lot where the arresting officer observed him as "unsteady on his feet, had slurred speech and glassy and blood-shot eyes" according to the police report quoted by theWorld.
It's not Blackmon's first brush with the law. In October of 2010, he drove to Dallas to watch a Monday night football game and was pulled over on a DUI complaint after police clocked him driving 92 MPH in a 60 zone.
