Joe Jackson Rookie, Rare Young Top Auction

A couple of pre-War Hall of Famers drew some big bids in a vintage sports card auction.

A 1909-1911 E90-1 American Caramel Joe Jackson rookie card and a 1903 E107 Breisch Williams Cy Young (SGC 60) each brought $79,068 in Mile High Card Company’s latest auction.

The sale, which lasted until the early morning hours of Thursday, included hundreds of vintage baseball cards and complete sets.

The Jackson card drew 18 bids while 20 were registered for the Young card. The final tally included the company’s 17.5% buyer’s premium, tacked on to the winning bid.

A 1934 Goudey partial set, all PSA 8, included 74 of the 96 cards in the set and sold for $71,879. A 1957 Topps complete set, all graded PSA 8, brought a realized price of $35,708 while a 1953 Topps set, #12 on the PSA Set Registry with 217 cards graded near mint 7, sold for $29,463.

A ‘perfect’ 1986-87 Fleer basketball set, every card a PSA 10 including a Michael Jordan rookie card, sold for $29,711.

Topping post-War individual card sales was a PSA 10 1956 Topps Sandy Koufax that sold for $49,014.
