Last month, we told you about a collection of awards and personal items consigned to auction by the family of Ted Williams. Now, we’re giving collectors their first look at some of what will be in the auction next year.
The live public auction in April will consist of a large quantity of Williams’ personal items including his 1949 Most Valuable Player Award and his 1956 American League Batting Champion Silver Slugger Award. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the auction will be donated to The Jimmy Fund, a prestigious Boston charity, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and the Boston Red Sox.
Williams’ daughter Claudia decided to part with the valuable memorabilia after they sat in storage for ten years. They represent a cross-section of Williams’ life as a ballplayer, war hero and fishing expert.
KFMB-TV gives us a tour of the material, on display at the San Diego Sports Hall of Fame through the rest of this month.
