Tiger StadiumLike so many old ballparks before it, Tiger Stadium will meet the wrecking ball early next year. Before it's gutted, the city will take advantage of collectors' appetites for all things baseball.

The city of Detroit is looking for an auction company to handle an on-line sale of
memorabilia from the old ballpark early next year.

It's expected that thousands of stadium seats, ballpark signs and other items would be available for purchase as the stadium's memorabilia is salvaged before the demolition.

Buyers will have to pick up their purchases at a warehouse that will be leased for
the sale. Other details, such as what exactly will be sold and at what prices, are
yet to be decided. The city hopes to use the sale to defray the cost of demolition,
which is certain to cost several million dollars.
