He spent decades greeting the famous faces that spent the night at one of Toronto's top hotels and grabbing the occasional autograph. The once-forgotten stash is now worth some cash and the now-retired Dougall MacDonald is going to find out exactly how much.

He was nice to them and they were usually kind to the Royal York Hotel doorman as well.

Well known sports figures, entertainers and politicians passed through those doors and Dougall MacDonald was pretty good at snaring autographs. They aren't on fancy photos, but he has some rare and valuable scribbles that just hit the auction block. After 11 years in storage, they'd almost been forgotten.

"I hadn't a clue; not a clue that all they would be worth anything," MacDonald said. He's anxious to see what they bring and the auctioneer is optimistic.
