Donruss Name Returns to Baseball Cards

No big league license yet, but Donruss does have some cards hitting hobby shops today with the release of Elite Extra Edition.

Donruss takes to the baseball field again today with the release of 2007 Elite Extra Edition – a draft picks set that includes the top college and high school picks from the annual amateur draft. More than 80 draft picks from the 2007 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, along with several other top picks from recent drafts, highlight the checklist of 2007 Donruss Elite Extra Edition. This is the first baseball product Donruss has produce since 2005.

"College Baseball is in the middle of an unprecedented boom period, and it's never been more popular than it is today," says Donruss spokesman Scott Prusha. "Two of the top three single-day attendance records at the College World Series were set this year. Elite Extra Edition captures the stars of college baseball while also highlighting many of the top high school players who were drafted and signed as well."

The product includes autographs from more than 100 players and celebrities, including 29 players from the 2007 first round and 23 from the supplemental first round. In addition to the dearth of talent from the ’07 draft, some other top prospects are also in the set including the first overall pick of the 2006 draft, Luke Hochevar and Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija.

"The autograph checklist is deep, and for many players this represents their only autographed card to date," says Donruss Baseball Brand Manager Ben Ecklar. "I think collectors are going to appreciate having Donruss back in baseball."

To spice things up, several legendary coaches and celebrities will also be make their trading card debut in Elite Extra Edition. These legends and celebrities represent their college affiliations through memorabilia cards and autographs.
