Beckett "Elite" magazine has been anoited one of the country's top new magazines by a man who decides on such things.
Beckett's foray into the world of sports memorabilia auctions, called "Beckett Elite" magazine, has produced only a few issues, but they were impressive enough to earn an honor from "Mr. Magazine." The company's publication was named as one of the top 15 new launches of the year.
Just who is Mr. Magazine, you ask? According to his website, he's Samir Husni, chairman of the Journalism Department at the University of Mississippi. His rankings of the top new launches of '06 includes Beckett Elite, which specializes in coverage of rare and historic sports items.
Beckett Elite launched in April and is published four times per year. More than 1,000 new magazines of different focus were issued this year. Elite shares the top 15 list with such publications as "Men's Vogue", "Every Day with Rachel Ray" and "Hallmark".
"Obviously, we're humbled and extremely proud of this honor," Beckett Media Associate Publisher Tracy Hackler said on the company website. "This award is a testament to everyone at Beckett Media who has put in a tremendous amount of work and passion to ensure that Beckett Elite truly is elite."
Beckett says Elite "canvasses America's finest sports auctions and their well-heeled participants, providing the necessary back stories and forward-thinking analysis that gives every page both historical and topical relevance."
Beckett Elite is priced at $39.99 for a one-year (4 issues) subscription.
