Floods Claim Baseball Card Collection
To most of us, it was a 45-second clip on the evening news. To those affected, it was a nightmare. The recent floods in the Upper Midwest destroyed a lot of things including one man’s lifelong card collection.
Roger Colbenson was a collector at heart.
The boxes that stored his cards included everything from vintage Hall of Famers to 1986 Topps. Late summer flooding in his hometown of Rushford, Minnesota swallowed up a collection he says was worth well into six figures and included a safe full of rookie cards. He thought at least they were out of danger but the safe turned out not to be waterproof.
