Teens Charged in Sports Memorabilia Theft

The theft of thousands of dollars in signed sports memorabilia may have been solved less than a week after it happened.

A Florida dentist and his ex-wife have been hoping police in the Gateway area would find who made off with signed footballs, basketballs, baseballs, pictures and other items from their soon to be sold home in a gated community.  Instead, they turned up at a Ft. Myers pawn shop.

The owner of International Diamond Exchange thought it was a little strange when an 18-year-old and two friends came in last week and left an impressive group of items in his hands.  He hadn’t yet found out that they belonged to Dr. William Greider.  When he did, he called authorities.  It’s not the entire collection, but it’s a start.

The cops captured the pawn shop visitors on video.

The Ft. Myers News-Press has the story.

It was also covered by the local CBS-TV station.  Here’s their video.

And on Monday, the sheriff’s office announced it had arrested three local teenagers.  Here’s the story from WESH-TV.
