The Cleveland Plain-Dealer offers its take on the National.
There’s no doubt Cleveland is a first rate sports town with a great history. That’s probably why northern Ohio has a big enough base of collectors to host the 30th annual National Sports Collectors Convention.
The Indians have been around for decades, but it’s really football country and the autograph guest list is heavy on former NFL greats. Many collectors make the short jaunt to Canton while they’re in the area, taking in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The show also generates a little more pre-event publicity in Cleveland than it does in an entertainment-rich area like southern California or New York where it’s often looked at as just another convention and gets little press attention. Case in point…a story in Tuesday’s edition of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer which offered some interesting show stats, a day ahead of the opening.
