Chicago 7-11 Stores Get Michael Jordan Cards
"I’ll have a Slurpee, a lottery ticket and a Michael Jordan basketball card set, please."
Next week, the Upper Deck Company will release a commemorative, 50-card box set of basketball trading cards celebrating the career of Michael Jordan. The cards capture the former Chicago Bull and 2009 Basketball Hall of Fame inductee will be available throughout the Chicagoland area at more than 350 different 7-11 locations starting on Tuesday, August 11. Jordan will be inducted into the Hall a month later.
Each box will also include one of 10 different 3.5-by-5-inch commemorative “Slam-Dunk” box-topper cards showing MJ doing what he did best.
“We are very excited about this Upper Deck product as each of our individual stores has signed up for a specific amount of boxes,” said Judy Avila, field merchandiser for 7-11’s Non-Foods Categories. “We offered it in sets of eight to all of our store outlets. Some signed up for eight [boxes] and some signed up for as many as 80.”
Located throughout the city of Chicago, 7-11’s other Chicagoland area stores are situated as far west as DeKalb, Illinois, as far north as the Wisconsin state border, and as far south as the Indiana state line. The set will retail for $19.99 and Upper Deck has included a total of ten Jordan-autographed commemorative cards that will be inserted into as many sets.
“This will be a highly coveted set for any Jordan or Bulls fan,” said Brandon Miller, Upper Deck’s Basketball brand manager. “We look forward to seeing collectors’ reactions once this product hits store shelves.”
