Washington Senators game-used Nellie Fox jerseyCollectors' sites are starting to take their own share of auction business. Game Used Universe is now offering members the chance to buy and sell in an auction format.

Large numbers of game used and autograph sports memorabilia collectors have come to trust the expert opinions and built-in social network of Game Used Universe to help them determine the potential legitimacy of items they are looking to buy. Now, GUU has unveiled its own auction platform.

The site recently launched its first “Forum Auction” to pilot the concept of providing self-contained auction services to a rapidly increasing user base. GUU is also in the process of developing protocols that will soon enable its auctions to be completely automated.

According to Game Used Universe CEO Chris Cavalier, the idea of conducting auctions directly from the site seems like a natural fit and one more benefit for members seeking more security when purchasing items for their collections.

“While the 'Items For Sale' forum on the Game Used Universe site has become very popular, many transactions are taking place in a way where the buyer is not gaining the benefit of the item images, and full item descriptions. That is, when item images and full descriptions are posted on the GUU site, collectors have an opportunity to ask questions and get feedback from our experts and the entire GUU community. In keeping with our goal of providing maximum benefits to collectors, we have created the Forum Auctions to provide a more formalized process to help collectors make truly informed purchase decisions about items being sold on Game Used Universe.”

For its pilot auction, Game Used Universe has listed 30 lots which included both game used and autographed items. While some include Letters of Opinion from other entities, the game used items were also evaluated by Game Used Universe experts to provide an added layer of confidence. The listings also included both comprehensive item descriptions as well as images for collectors to see.

“Our site experts do a fantastic job in helping collectors determine the potential legitimacy of game used and autographed items,” Cavalier said. “I think through the auctions on our site, anyone looking to buy an item will have the tools and means to make an educated decision as to the probability of an item being what it is claimed to be,” said Cavalier.

Collectors can see for themselves by visiting the Game Used Universe site at GameUsedUniverse.com. The homepage offers links to the inaugural auction which closes Thursday, March 22nd.
