A baseball card store is about the only business two California brothers have ever known.
Grow. Evolve. Change. Diversify.
Principles in the sports memorabilia business are no different than the steps for success in any business.
Two California brothers are proof of that.
Chris and Mark Gooboian started selling cards at a local farmer’s market in 1989. It worked out well enough for them to open a brick-and-mortar shop during the "boom" era of the 90s. Their second location is still operating, although they’ve had to diversify their inventory beyond the obvious wax boxes and single cards.
Not many card shops have survived this long, but they told the Fresno Bee they’re celebrating their 20th anniversary thanks to some lessons learned and a willingness to change.
