Bonds Bonfire, Boycott Backfire..a Bit
One Chicago store got some national exposure for a promise not to sell any more Barry Bonds memorabilia. They’re getting ready to burn it but not everyone is happy.
Bleachers in Winnetka, Illinois is one place you won’t find any Barry Bonds baseball cards or memorabilia. Owner Keith McDonough is boycotting the future home run king.
"Bonds knew he was taking performance-enhancing drugs, and he continued to take them after Major League Baseball declared their use to be illegal," McDonough told the Chicago Tribune. "Quite simply, we want kids to say ‘no’ to taking steroids and any other drugs like this, so we will at least not sell Barry Bonds in our store."
McDonough got some national TV exposure for his refusal to sell any Bonds items–and a plan to set fire to a stack of items the day Hank Aaron’s record falls.
The idea is popular with some, while others have sent him some nasty messages.
