Bigger Packs; Regional Cards in Upper Deck Basketball

2007-2008 Upper Deck Michael Jordan Upper Deck’s base basketball set will boost the number of cards per pack and have East and West Heroes variation inserts.

What you find in packs of Upper Deck basketball cards this fall might depend on where you live.

In an apparent shout out to the 1981-82 Topps set, Upper Deck will offer different Heroes cards for each half of the country. The East packs will contain Michael Jordan NBA Heroes cards and the West packs will have Kevin Durant. Additionally, there will be East and West All-Star die-cut cards. “We really felt this was a great year to try something new, and providing regional content provides both local favorite players and cards to chase from the other version,” commented Chris Kollmeyer, Associate Basketball Brand Manager for Upper Deck.

The 2007-08 offering of UD Basketball (SRP $4.99) will feature a 200-card base set and a new insert called Rookie Debut Signatures, which were produced and signed at the 2007 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot in late July. Hobby packs will contain 15 cards this season.

2007-2008 Larry Bird Upper Deck Star Signings autographed card “We’ve expanded the quantity of cards in the pack across our Upper Deck hobby lineup and collectors have responded positively,” said Bill Beaman, Associate Product Manager for Upper Deck. “The Hobby Predictor cards have always been very popular and we wanted to bring them back.”

In addition, UD has included Hobby Predictor cards. Anyone who collects the actual Rookie of the Year (ROY) or the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will win press plates (four versions) that were used to make one of the base cards or Star Rookie cards (42 of the top rookies).

Upper Deck Basketball will be available the first week of October.
