Basketball Card Ground Floor Has Been Profitable

1957 Topps basketball pack Two guys who had a hunch about twenty years ago that basketball cards and memorabilia were a sleeping giant, turned a sizable investment into a seven-figure portfolio.

They were a distant, distant third in hobby popularity. Basketball cards and memorabilia ditched the Dangerfield and two guys who jumped in ahead of the pack have built an impressive collection.

Bill Schonscheck dropped $40,000 on a horde of hoops goodies at the Topps auction back in 1989. Since then, he’s partnered with another basketball junkie and built a collection that’s high on quality.

The two shopped for the best of the best, the rarest of the rare and the historical home runs that set their stash apart.

They’ve got some of their best pieces in an online photo album and it’s all caught the attention of USA Today.
