Little Leaguers in Vegas are proof that despite rumors to the contrary, a pack of cards is still excellent entertainment.
You can find plenty of articles and opinions saying the sports collecting hobby isn't what it used to be.
And it isn't--if your reference point in the early 1990s, when there seemed to be a shop on every corner.
It's gotten a little more sophisticated but it doesn't take long to discover that not every kid is enamored with gold foil or memorabilia cards.
At least one Little League coach in Las Vegas is having no trouble getting kids to make card collecting a big part of their summer. That's OK with Mom, too. "It helps them because they look at the backs (of the cards) and learn the statistics and records," said one.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal took stock of the hobby in a Sunday feature story.
