It’s not as easy as it once was–but that’s just part of the challenge for die-hard collectors working the Cactus League, who fight the perception they’re all looking to turn a quick buck.
They remember the days when even Hall of Famers weren’t that hard to approach. When security didn’t shoo them away and when fences weren’t as prevalent.
Times have changed at spring training venues, where fans now turn out in droves and the number of autograph seekers grows each year. Getting ahold of game used bats and other equipment is also harder–and more expensive.
For veterans of the Cactus League signature seeking clan–at least one of whom is an octegenarian–it’s still fun to add to their already-impressive collections.
