Antique Baseball Game Discovered in Estate

It’s the most sought-after baseball board game in the world, with a surviving quantity that puts the T206 Honus Wagner to shame.

The Bingham-Waggoner estate dates to the mid-19th century. The Missouri landmark is a tourist attraction, but it’s apparent not every nook and cranny of the place was thoroughly searched.

Tucked inside what was once a servant’s bedroom was an 1893 baseball board game, discovered and then put on display for visitors to see. It took a visit from a friend of one of the Baseball Hall of Fame’s executives to let caretakers of the place know this was no ordinary child’s game.

The 1893 Zimmer’s Base Ball game is a true rarity, picturing players like Cy Young, Buck Ewing and Ed Delahanty.

Another copy of the rare game sold for $19,975 in Robert Edward Auctions recent sale. REA has handled five over the years, calling it one of the ‘true holy grails of 19th century baseball memorabilia’.

The Examiner of Independence, Missouri has the full story on the recent find–and pictures.

The game also attracted the attention of KMBC-TV in Kansas City. Watch their story below:
