Baseball Card Exchange

A Tale of Two Sports Card Businesses

In the early 1990s, southern California’s phone books had listing after listing for “Sports Cards”.  From San Diego up the coast and through the Los Angeles area, there was always a place to buy the latest wax box or fill your want list with singles.

Not anymore.

Dozens of shops have come and gone, but two long-time dealers are still at it.

Baseball Card Company in Granada Hills remains open for business with a flock of loyal customers who keep the bid board busy and the cash register ringing with sales of the card companies’ latest product.

Burbank Sports Cards used to be a physical store and if you really want to, you can still stop in.  Truth be told, though, they’re an online business with the hobby’s biggest selection of single cards from virtually every product issued over the last several decades.

Reporter Jon Gold talked to Mike Harris and Rob Veres, who stay busy satisfying the needs of collectors who can’t get enough.

Check out his story here, in the Sunday edition of the L.A. Daily News.
