The announcement was made last spring at the annual Industry Summit conference in Las Vegas and on Monday, Topps revealed a little more about the promotion.
The usual free six-card packs are slated to be given away at hobby shops and at ballparks. Shops will have to pay 50 cents each for the packs they hand out. Based on Topps promotional literature, the checklist will include Kris Bryant, Bryce Harper, Noah Syndergaard, Francisco Lindor and Corey Seager.
Look for players making promotional and autograph appearances in conjunction with the event. Online retailer Blowout Cards has promised to shut down its storefront on August 12, encouraging collectors to visit the shop closest to them instead of ordering online. Major League teams will again host stadium trading card giveaways in the days leading up to the event.
Stores interested in participating in this year’s promotion are being asked to fill out a short survey form.
Meanwhile, Topps also unveiled the cards it’ll be giving away to those who buy VIP passes for this year’s National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago. It’ll be a 30-year anniversary nod to the 1987 Topps design with Nolan Ryan, Cal Ripken, Ted Williams, Ken Griffey Jr. and Johnny Bench featured. The cards will carry the NSCC logo.
Collectors who buy the Super VIP pass will receive a second set.
