2013 Panini Prizm Perennial Draft Picks Box Break

One of my favorite tag lines in stories is, “check back with us in about three to five years to see how we did with a product.”  I tend to use that line in almost any Bowman release. And the recently released 2013 Panini Prizm Perennial Draft Picks Box is a good example of what we mean by this line. The box features a photo of uber-prospect Kris Bryant on the front and he’s ranked among the very top future stars.

2013 Panini Prizm Perennial Draft PicksboxBetween the name of the release and the player pictures on the front any collector will have a good idea as to what type of players he or she will be receiving from the box. One advantage for any card company that wishes to produce these types of sets is usually youngsters’ autographs and memorabilia are available at a lower price tag.

The boxes contain 20 packs per box with six cards per pack with a promise of four autographs per box.  The back of the box lists a fairly detailed list of the insert cards possible.

Of course, Panini’s baseball products aren’t league-licensed so you will get a lot of blank helmets and caps and generic-looking uniforms.

The fronts feature a player photo set against a silver background using Panini’s Prizm technology

The player names, position and a team name is at the bottom. The backs have an informational blurb with the player’s biographical statistics underneath those notes.

Minors Gold BundyMy local card shop (Triple Cards, Plano TX) bought a few boxes and did sell out and planned to re-stock a few before the weekend.  He did mention his collectors, although they liked the issue, would have enjoyed the cards more if Panini could do more than the plain look of the photos. Currently leading on-line retailers are selling these boxes for between $70-80.

So how did we do from our box?

Cecchini baseBase Cards: We received 102 cards for an 100 card set. With perfect distribution that is a complete base set and even with some trading, a collector should be able to complete the base set with one hobby box.

Draft Picks “High #’s”:  These are 2013 Draft Picks: Victor Caratini, J.P. Crawford, Clint Frazier, Josh Hart

Draft Pick Prizm Parallel Ryder Jones

Draft Hits: Michael O’Neill

Prospect Signatures: Aaron Blair

Prospect Signatures Prizm Red (#d to 100): Micah Johnson

That is really a pretty nice autograph haul and anytime we can get a signed card of Byron Buxton who is currently among the top five prospects we know we did pretty well. But remember, check with us in three to five years and we’ll see how well we really did.
