Pitchers and catchers have yet to report, but is hasn’t stopped Topps from taking the wraps off a product that won’t be released until late August: 2012 Topps Chrome Baseball. As with previous Topps Chrome sets, the base set will consist of chromium-stock reprints from the Topps flagship, and each 24-pack Hobby box will yield two autographs.
The base set will be 220 cards deep (a minimum of 25 of which will be rookies) and will be available in a wide-variety of Refractor parallels – eight of which will be serial-numbered from as many as 199 copies to as little as the one-of-one SuperFractors. New for 2012, are a Hobby-exclusive Autographed Patch base card variation (serial-numbered to ten copies), and uncut sheet redemption cards.
The main draw for many collectors of 2012 Topps Chrome Baseball will be the Autographed Rookies, and collectors should expect to find at least two on-card autographs per box, with the usual variety of serial-numbered Refractor parallels also included.
Other autographed inserts collectors can find, if they’re lucky enough to find them, include a ten Dual Autographs and Chrome Encounters, both serial-numbered to only ten copies. Another new autographed set are Cut from the Same Cloth, featuring a sticker autographs from two different players on a die-cut card. Joining them will be 10 Autographed Chrome Rookie Buybacks; all cards of players who appeared in Topps Chrome before the autograph rookie card concept took hold.
Rounding out the inserts is a 50-card set of Dynamic Die-Cuts. These cards will be seeded at the rate of about one-per Hobby box, with an autographed parallel version numbered to 25.
2012 Topps Chrome Baseball is scheduled for release the week of August 22. Each Hobby box will contain 24 packs of four cards and should sell in the $75-$80/box. Each case will have 12 boxes. Check out the gallery below. Check out Chrome cards on eBay here.
